Dutton& Aron (1974) study, as cited in lectures (23 JAN 2008)
Participants: Male hikers
Procedures:
1)Hikers were required to cross either suspension(scary) bridge or a lower and more stable bridge.
2)Hikers met an attracting female research assistant in one of two conditions (Scary/ Stable bridge). She gave her phone number to the hikers.
3) Male hikers were asked to rate the attractiveness of the female research assistant.
Findings: Male hikers who met the female reserach assitant on the scary bridge rated her as more attractive and were more likely to actually call her for a date later on.
Discussion: The feelings of arousal that the male hikers experienced on the scary bridge were misinterpreted as attraction. If she had not been present, the feelings of arousal probably would have been interpeted as fear of crossing the scary bridge.
Daily life implication: When you're in love with someone and hoping that he/she has the same positive feeling towards you, go for roller coaster ride. He/She might misinterpreted the feeling of arousal (e.g. heart pounding) that he/she experienced during the roller coaster ride as a sign of love.

shayn u get the point! anyway, it's a good start. at least, u'll hv a chance. for sure, it wun guarantee a long lasting relationhsip, so with tis great start, one has to put more effort to maintain the relationship. It requires long investment. good luck frens...if it works, i ll charge all of u...hahhaaa

The study is a scientific research, bt the implication has not been scientifically deemed yet. Xin, you're right. Don't take it for granted. Many moderators come into play.
