| Interest Vs. Reality- The Road not Taken |
| Friday, July 18, 2008 |
Things usually went different from what we expecting, longing for...I wish to balance both of my interest and reality equally well, but it seems it's really tough to achieve that balancing point.
THE PSYCHOLOGY OF SEX AND GENDER - This course examines whether and to what extent behaviours a nd attributes are gender-and/or sex-related. The psychological literature is examined for findings pertinent to the question of female-male differences and similarities, and for indications of socio-cultural and biological factors that may explain th ese findings. Current social beliefs and norms concerning sex and gender are examined in the light of existing data.
ORGANIZATIONAL PSYCHOLOGY I - This course is an introduction to the behaviour of individuals in organizations, focussing on research methods in industrial/organizational psychology, effects of individual personality and perception on organizational behaviour, communication in organizations, lea rning and motivation, job design and career planning and development.
Above are courses that I'm currently struggle with. I can only choose one of them. The former is my 'interest', while the latter is my 'reality'.
Choosing 'interest' might cost me to stay one more semester in winnipeg/ unable to change a new environment (transfer to other uni to continue my master)/ 'forcing' me to choose development psychology instead of organizational as a field that i'm majoring in, therefore leading to earning less & job uncertainty.
On the other hand, i'll feel really bad of not taking that courses (interest) since i'm EXTREMELY interested with this course since the very beginning. Who knows things might not be that negative at last? I might change my mind on majoring in which field or I might major in organizational field despite all the introductory courses in organizational psychology. AND THE PROFESSOR WHO'S TEACHING THIS COURSE IS WERHUN (my idol). So is it worthy to sacrifice my 'interest' all the way?!
Struggling......

hahaha interest and reality! i support the reality. career and future vice i think i good to take up the organizational psychology. for d other 1 u can always take it again when u feel that u are aredy for it.
as for me, i am giving up on O&G for certain reasons. i might consider internal medicine for my future career.
there are so much of uncertainty in the life. all the best for whatever you choose.....

it's realy hard to give up things that i really interested in. At the menawhile yet, it's kinda hard for me to go pursue my interest without considering the reality underlying this...hw i wish i'm at either extreme, not 50-50. i need more time to think bout it...10x anyway

If I were you, I would definitely take the one I like, after all, there isn't a lot of times you would know something you really want to do.
At least for me, I am always lost and confused and not knowing what I really want. So there might be some pressure in taking the course, but there must be a way you could satisfy both your needs (interest / reality?). otherwise, you would have to make your interest into your reality, or make your reality into your interest.
sorry for cryptic language tho,:D
